Rules & guidelines for SL Living Expo

General Rules and Guidelines

  • We want everyone to have a fantastic time at SL Living Expo. This means in general, to be kind and understanding to others.
  • Attendees should do the best to keep their script count down; this helps everyone and gives everyone a more enjoyable experience.
  • Any form of political and/or election advertising or endorsements of any kind is not allowed. Any political advertising will be returned to the owner and can result in removal from the event.
  • As with all Relay For Life of Second Life events, the event is a moderate event; meaning clothing and language needs to meet the moderate guidelines.
  • Offensive or Derogatory advertisements/assets that are not permitted within the guidelines of Linden Lab Terms of Service, such as but not limited to hate speech, cyber bullying and other defamatory remarks, will be returned to the owner and can result in expulsion from the event.
  • Any person(s) found to be actively engaging in griefing will be ejected and may result in a ban and in this case you will have your objects returned.  In the case of trolling, griefing, or disruption of an event, we reserve the right to eject and/or ban the perpetrator(s) for the duration of the event or in cases which demand a higher punishment permanently.

Participant Rules and Setup

Setup

  • Setup for participants will begin on Sunday, January 31st and will run through Tuesday, February 4th.  Bloggers will have early access on Tuesday, February 4th. Note: Due to circumstances beyond our control, these dates MAY change; we will keep our participants informed as the time comes closer.
  • You will be invited into the “SL Living Expo Construction Crew” group as a Participant, which will give you build rights to set up your booth once the regions are opened to Participants. Any individuals associated with you must also be added to the group if they need to help with setup. Please contact a Lead or member of Project Management if additional avatars need added to the group.

Cleanup

  • Cleanup will begin on Saturday, February 15th. Region items will NOT be returned; participants must pick up their no-copy items. We have zero control of when Linden Labs reclaim the regions, therefore you should clean up any items you wish to not be forever deleted. If you have issues or cannot obtain your no-copy items, please contact a Lead or member of the Project Management for assistance.

ACS Vendors and Kiosks

ACS Vendor: Used to sell a creator’s item

ACS Kiosk: Collects donations

  • ACS Kiosks and Vendors are used to collect donations for RFL. They are pre-scripted to route the money to the American Cancer Society’s avatar account.
  • SL Living Expos ACS Vendors will be provided as soon as they are available.
  • Each merchant must have a minimum of one (1) 100% donation ACS Vendor in their booth. Both items should be NEW and EXCLUSIVE (during the duration of the event).  Our shoppers highly anticipate and appreciate Exclusive creations.  Exclusive means the item cannot be sold before the event, can only be sold at the SL Living Expo during the duration of the event, but can then be sold AFTER the event as you choose.
  • Additional ACS vendors are encouraged, but not required.  These items can be new or older releases, however keeping in mind the goal is to help raise donations; therefore the newer and higher quality items in the vendors, the more sales. We applaud the dedication and creativity of all our Creators and especially those who go beyond what the Expo asks of them. If you would like to have a third or fourth item for RFL, consider including best sellers from the past!
  • ACS Kiosks will be set up by the SL Living Expo Team, however you are encouraged to also set them up in your stores or regions. They collect donations for RFL.

Store Vendors

  • Store vendors should be single item vendors only; no multi-item vendors as these can produce lag.
  • Store vendors textures should not display any nudity or sexual acts.
  • Store vendor textures should be 512×512; this helps reduce lag and helps the texture load more quickly for our attendees.

Other Participation

  • Participants are encouraged to also participate in other ways, such as donating towards our Auction, Gift Card Raffle, Raffle items or our Event Hunt. Information on those activities can be found here.

Scripts

  • To decrease lag and improve the overall experience for our supporters, we require that Participants minimize their script usage.
  • This means no highly scripted items, no temporary rezzers and no greeters.  Group joiners and social media connections are permitted so long as they can be accessed via a “click” and not have automatic inviters.
  • The preference for texture dimensions is 512×512, especially in vendor images. It should be considered that any texture higher than 512×512 takes longer to load in and that of a 1024×1024 texture uses four times the amount of memory than that of a 512×512, which affects the load times and frame rates of our supporters.  Script usage will be monitored and you may be requested to minimize your impact on the region.

Intellectual Property

  • SL Living Expo is one of the mega events of Relay for Life in Second Life. This means that all the rules of RFL and Linden Lab Terms of Service must be followed. Linden Lab also has a very clear official Intellectual Property Statement available.
  • This means that the items that the creators bring to the event must be legally theirs to sell. Everything in them must have been made by the creator or the creator must have used legitimate full permission resources according to their respective EULAs or the resources must be in public domain.
  • The items sourced from a third party resource site need to be compliant with that site’s EULA, just like the items created with the help of resource kits from the Marketplace need to comply with their respective EULAs. Non-commercial means exactly that: not for selling purposes.
  • Items created with resource kits purchased from the Marketplace are subject to verification, should a complaint about the item be received. This means that if the seller of the resource kit stole or ripped it from somewhere, we cannot let the item stay in the event, even when the purchase of the kit was legitimate and the items created with the kit are original work. This is an unfortunate situation and we hope it never occurs.
  • The items must not infringe on anyone’s Intellectual Property. If the design, symbol or artistic work belongs to someone else, re-creating it in pixels does not make it yours.
  • In resident versus resident cases of claimed copybotting, we cannot act as a judge and will recommend the injured party to file a DMCA. After there is a filed DMCA, we will make a decision. However, this applies only to resident versus resident cases where we cannot possibly know who is right and who is wrong. This does not apply to clear IP infringement cases nor ripping from games or third party resource sites: these are usually blatantly clear.
  • We reserve the right to remove items or merchants from the event should any rules be broken. The situations are handled on a case-by-case basis. There will be no refunds on booth money should such a situation occur.

Do’s, Don’ts & Extras

  • All content must be within a moderating rating. That means no adult content, no adult pictures or adult demos. Sale of adult furniture and items is acceptable as long as demos are PG only and the vendor advertisements are not explicit in nature. If you are unsure whether or not you fall into any of these categories please contact a Lead or member of Project Management.
  • No copyright or trademark infringement (included but not limited to real life or virtual name brands, logos, sounds, or graphics that are not owned by the participant.)
  • Land Impact limits are according to the booth size requested and any excess prims will be returned.
  • We expect that every participant and supporter adhere to the standard Second Life Terms of Service.
  • As an event that is setup to raise awareness and funding for Relay for Life in Second Life, we do not offer refunds and after registration/sponsorship donations are paid, they are non-refundable; no exceptions are made.
  • Participants grant the SL Living Expo a limited license to use any logos and product ads provided to promote their participation and/or sponsorship of the event in Second Life and on third-party websites, such as, but not limited to in-world promotional materials, event sign boards, blogs, social media, and websites, ACS websites, and other online sites and services.
  • Participants and/or sponsors agree that regions will be open to photographers and machinima producers and that photography and filming will not only be allowed but also encouraged before and during the event.
  • Please limit your decorating to the interior of your store. The region designers have worked very hard to create a region you will be proud to be a part of, keeping your merchandise inside your stores is a way of saying “thank you” for their efforts.

RFL Logo Rules and Guidelines

  • Please use the logos provided by the American Cancer Society. Please discard any past logos you may have in your inventory. You will be asked to redo all items containing incorrect artwork. You will notice that all of Society’s logos have a TM  symbol embedded, which means there are rules you *MUST* follow in order to use it.
  • Logo needs to remain intact. It cannot, by law, be chopped up, re-colored or modified in any way. Please do not stretch or squish the logo without keeping the original proportions.
  • Logo must hold clear margins and be clear of all encroachment (peripheral design). This means keeping some white space around the logo itself. Do not place it right next to another graphic or border.
  • The logo should not be placed next to any profanity or anything that detracts from the Society mission. Please – this brand is precious to all of us and we want to keep it held with the best possible regard and reputation.
  • Please do not alter the design of any posters or communication by removing the American Cancer Society logo. This event is supported by American Cancer Society resources and the logo is trademarked.
  • The use of any American Cancer Society Relay For Life logo is for Relay For Life purposes only. We cannot sell items with any of these logos on them, but they may be given away for free. If you see an item for sale displaying any of the TM logos, please contact a team lead immediately.
  • Please avoid using ACS for the American Cancer Society. Use only the full name.

If you have questions in regards to logos and where they can and cannot be used, please contact a Lead or Project Manager.
